The City of North Miami Beach in collaboration with Center for Independent Living of South Florida, Inc. (CILSF) has opened a Northeast Dade computer facility for individuals with disabilities of all ages. View the CILSF website for details.
One full-time facility coordinator from the CILSF will be at the library during the hours of operation from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The CILSF program offers persons with disabilities peer support, information and referral, loan of assistive technology, self-advocacy skills training, employability skills training, and use of a computer with high-speed Internet access.
According to former NM.B. Councilman Myron Rosner, who has supported the creation of a NM.B. branch from its inception, "Without the creative funding strategy of the City of North Miami Beach, a CILSF Computer Facility would not have materialized."
The City applied for and received funds held by Miami-Dade County that are collected from fines paid by individuals who park illegally in the City's designated handicapped parking spaces.
