Fluoride

Fluoride is a naturally-occurring element found in soil and water. Almost all water contains some fluoride, but usually at levels too low to prevent tooth decay. To address this issue, NMB Water adds approximately 0.5 parts per million of fluoride to the naturally-occurring concentration of 0.2 mg/L to maintain the U.S. Center for Disease Control recommended concentration of 0.7 mg/L. NMB Water's annual fluoride average level is 0.7 mg/L. The fluoride we add is in compliance with NSF International Standard 60 for drinking water additives.

Public health, dental, and medical authorities support drinking water fluoridation as safe and effective. The U.S. Center for Disease Control have proclaimed drinking water fluoridation as one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century. There is also strong support for water fluoridation by the American Dental Association, American Medical Association, and the American Public Health Association.
