There can be many reasons for discolored water, but it usually originates in the water distribution system or private plumbing systems. Corrosion or rusting of the interior surfaces of metal pipes is a primary source of discoloration and particles that can appear in your water.
There are several possible situations that can cause this material to be dislodged. The most probable of these causes and steps you can take to resolve them are listed below.
NMB Water is fortunate to utilize an advanced water treatment process to produce outstanding drinking water.
Cloudy water could be caused by tiny air bubbles in the water similar to the gas bubbles in carbonated soft drinks. After a while, the bubbles rise to the top and they are gone. Water is perfectly safe to drink or to use for cooking.
Brown, red, orange, or yellow water is usually caused by rust. The different colors can be attributed to varying chemical oxidation states of the iron (rust) and by varying concentrations of the rust in the water.
The internal plumbing of your house may be the culprit if discolored water appears only for a minute or two after you turn on the tap.
Rubber materials used in plumbing fixtures are the most common cause of black particles in tap water.
From time to time, NMB Water receives customer questions about the taste or the odor of drinking water.
