North Miami Beach, Fla. – The City of North Miami Beach has appointed Arthur H. “Duke” Sorey, III, to serve as City Manager. The Commission voted to approve Sorey’s appointment during the Commission Meeting on April 20. His appointment is effective immediately.
“The Commission and I look forward to working with Mr. Sorey to continue serving all of our residents and building on North Miami Beach’s progress as a strong, vibrant, and dynamic city,” NMB Mayor Anthony F. DeFillipo said. “Our community’s best days lie ahead because of our leaders’ commitment to our city.”
Sorey is an accomplished public administrator with more than 20 years of municipal experience. He recently served as Deputy City Manager for the City of North Miami, where he has worked for 17 years in roles ranging from Budget Analyst to Executive Director of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA). Sorey also served as Interim City Manager of North Miami twice, leading the city’s 18 departments, CRA, and managing a $160 million budget.
“I am grateful and honored to serve as North Miami Beach’s next City Manager and look forward to offering innovative solutions and actualize change that will benefit the residents of this thriving community,” Sorey said.
Sorey is a South Florida native and earned both his bachelor’s and master's degrees in Public Administration from Florida International University, and a certificate for Senior Executives in Leadership for State and Local Government from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Sorey was one of 60 applicants for the City Manager position.
