Major Juan Pinillos is a Miami native who has dedicated himself to serving the community by layering himself with skills that he acquired from first graduating from Miami Sunset Senior High School and then proceeding to serve by enlisting in the United States Army as an Infantryman. During his time in the Army, he participated in several tours of duty until his honorable discharge in 1999. It was his dedication to inspire and promote to serve his country that motivated him to start his law enforcement career in June of 2000 where he served as a Sheriff’s Deputy and Narcotic Detective with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff Department in Louisiana. It was after working over five years, that he felt the need to return and relocate to Miami in 2005 where he started his law enforcement career with the Miami Shores Police Department.

In 2006, an opportunity was given to Major Pinillos to work for the North Miami Beach Police Department (NMBPD). His visionary perspective to serve his community were realized as he served diligently in the following capacities: Road Patrol officer, Field Training Officer (Supervisor), Special Response Team member, K-9 Unit Handler/Supervisor, Honor Guard Member, and Supervisor. In 2013, Major Pinillos was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant where he served involving himself in every aspect of the job and still undergoing training of the different facets of the police department. It was in 2016 where his efforts were recognized, and he was promoted to the rank of Police Captain. It was during that time that as a family man and as a supervisor in the Investigative Unit, he started to pursue his college degree, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management and also becoming a graduate of the Southern Police Institute (SPI 84th) Command Officer’s Development Course.

In October 2020, Major Pinillos was promoted to his current rank where he is currently assigned to several units in the Operations Division comprised of Road Patrol Squads, Traffic Unit, K9, Rapid Deployment, FTO Program, Honor Guard and Crisis Negotiations.

These accomplishments reflect a Miami native who started with a goal to serve and inspire others to accomplish more by involving himself in his family, career, and community and demonstrating that through hard work and dedication, this can be done.
