In 2007, Major Stuart Nichols joined the North Miami Beach Police Department (NMBPD), after serving in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the Military Police from 2002-2007. Since joining the NMBPD, Major Nichols served as a patrol officer in the Uniform Patrol Division, a Police Detective in the Crime Suppression Team, Traffic Homicide Investigations (THI) Unit, and a Drug Recognition Expert. As a Police Sergeant, he supervised Road Patrol, THI Unit, Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), and the Traffic Unit.
In September 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Police Captain and was assigned to the Operations Division. During that time, he was the Police Commander of CNT, Field Training Officer Program (FTOP), Reserve Unit, and Command Post (CP).
Major Nichols attended Cooper City High School and holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Master's degree in Administration of Justice and Security from University of Phoenix. Additionally, Major Nichols is a graduate of The Southern Police Institute (SPI), Command Officer Development Course (CODC), Class # 81. Major Nichols also attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) LEEDA Leadership Trilogy course and FBI Florida Executive Development Seminar
In November 2018, Major Nichols was promoted to the rank of Police Major and is currently assigned to the Administrative Division.
