Captain Jose Assael has been with the North Miami Beach Police Department since January 1997. Jose had the opportunity to take an active role in training and mentoring new police officers as a Field Training Officer. Jose also became an agency instructor and spent many years as an investigator in the Traffic Homicide Unit. Jose was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2006. As a Sergeant, Jose was assigned to Uniform Road Patrol. Jose was also in charge of the Field Training Officer Program, Traffic Homicide Unit, Training Unit Supervisor and the Reserve Officer Program.
Jose was promoted to the rank of Captain in January 2013 and is currently assigned to the Community Affairs Bureau, overseeing the Community Policing Unit, Traffic Unit, Crime Prevention Unit and the North Miami Beach Police Athletic League.
Jose earned an Associate degree from Miami-Dade Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Florida International University in 1994. Jose is a graduate of the International Associations of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Leadership in Police Organizations, 2013, the Miami Dade College School of Justice, Senior Officers Course, 2015 and the Southern Police Institute (SPI) 78th Command Officers Development Course, 2017.
